Arctic Lupins - Harding Icefield. Alaska

The delicate purple blossoms of the Arctic Lupins are seen here growing in the Harding Icefield, a vast icefield in the Kenai Mountains in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. A part of it also extends to the Kenai Fjords National Park. Known not only for its pure white awe, it is in fact the largest icefield located completely within the United States of America, receiving 400 inches (10.16 metres) of snow every year. In 1922 the Spruce Creek trail made the upper sections of the icecaps visible, and after President Harding promised a visit, it was quickly named after him.
